Shoulder pain
Shoulder pain is one of the most common types of pain in the general population, and a real challenge because of the many structures involved in this region. Only 20% of the head of the humerus (the arm bone) is in contact with the scapula (shoulder blade), which makes this joint prone to instability. As a result, shoulder pain mostly originates outside the joint, in the many tendons and muscles of the region.
Low back pain
Low back pain is one of the most common pain complaints, with an estimated 80% of people experiencing it at some point in their lives. Although one school of thought holds that most of these complaints fall under “non-specific low back pain”, another (which we share) argues that a thorough clinical examination correlated with imaging can lead us to the specific source of the pain, so that it can be treated properly.
Knee pain
Knee pain can be intra-articular (cartilage, meniscus and ligaments) or extra-articular (tendons, muscles and ligaments), and each type calls for a different approach.
One of the most common causes of knee pain in young people and athletes is patellofemoral pain syndrome, a conflict between the kneecap and the cartilage of the femoral condyles. The pain usually gets worse after sitting for a long time or going downstairs. If not treated early, it can progress to deeper cartilage damage. An image-guided intra-articular injection of hyaluronic acid or platelet-rich plasma usually gives good pain control, opening a pain-free window to correct the biomechanical causes.
